1  Game Strategy / Texas Hold'em / Re: Why poker will make you insane on: June 03, 2012, 06:40:48 PM
Its one of those hands that look odd, but is a result of the flow of the game, and was pretty standard at that point.
2  Game Strategy / Texas Hold'em / Re: Cash game: Lose my buy-in on one a gross river on: June 02, 2012, 09:37:27 AM
Yeah, I definitely didn't play the river well. Should have kept it low and just checked. But the fact that he chased an inside draw is a bummer, seems like bad plays have been getting rewarded against me recently. I know that's the variance in poker, but it doesn't make it sting any less.

Sorry for the following vent - please ignore it. I have had a tough run of luck on the cash tables though, and it is really starting to piss me off. I haven't gotten much to play with, but when I do I get the money in the pot in great spots only to lose on some 2 or 3 outer.  Haven't caught a flush draw to save my life. And when I do get a big hand, its either a suckout or folds. And the folding isnt because I am giving away my hand, I have tried various methods to get value and each time its insta fold.

2 hands, within a few hours of each other, literally took me from a winner to a loser on the day. $350+ swing on 5 total outs between the two. Makes me sick sometimes.

4  Game Strategy / Texas Hold'em / Cash game: Lose my buy-in on one a gross river on: May 29, 2012, 04:57:43 PM
Wow, this one hurt. Perhaps I should have checked the river, and maybe just called his raise. But he had been very loose and sticking around with low pairs. Twice he had re-raised the river with 2nd pair after being bet into from the start. I would have actually felt better if he stuck around with 2nd pair and caught 2 pair on the turn or something. But this is just sick. I hadn't had much to play with, so I had a relatively tight image. Just don't understand why he can justify sticking around, all the info he had pointed towards folding. I guess hes smarter than me though, because he won the pot.

Good idea Mars, I think I will do that! The 50/50 split sounds like a very good idea. Smiley

Thanks RSV and Mars! I appreciate the offer to discuss poker, I would definitely take you up on that. However, it doesn't look like I will be going. I am in the middle of a transition into a new position at work and taking a week off won't really work.

On top of that, the package only gives $800 for a plane ticket. Tickets are upwards of $1,500 and its hard to spend an additional $700. Its also a 10-11 hour flight!

I plan on selling the package, although I will only get about 50% of the total value. At least I can take the money and have a nice bankroll to work with again!

I will say, I am going to have a hard time giving up on the chance to play in a big buy in tourney. I will plan on playing the satellites for the WSOP this year. THAT I will not sell if I am lucky enough to win one. I am really torn, as it has always been a dream to play in a big live event, and maybe get lucky enough for a big score. But in the end, I would rather take the money and try to build on it, and try to get the WSOP seat. At least a ticket to Vegas for my wife would be affordable.

Do you think I'm stupid for passing on this?

being that im mainly a cash player, I havent scored many huge wins in an mtt. The last one I remember was a game on Bugsys a few years ago, I think I took down a $600 profit or so. That is until tonight.

Just won a 3.5k package to the LSOP in Lima, Peru. Not positive on what I will do quite yet, but I can tell you I am still riding an adrenaline high and dont know when I will come down. It sure is a great feeling.
