The reason I'm mentioning this hand is because of villain's river bet against the uber-short stack.  This is a bounty SnG, so there is a lot of equity added for knocking out an opponent.  So why did he leave the short stack with 40 chips?

Not only is villain allowing the short stack the chance to get back into the game (he quadrupled up the next hand to 170), he is also depriving himself of a great chance to pick up a bounty.

Chances are, if the short stack is willing to call a 200 chip bet which cripples him if he loses, he is willing to call a 240 chip bet.  The reverse also applies - if 240 is too much, 200 is almost certainly also too much.

So, next time you're in a situation similar to villain's, holding a monster against a real short stack (in a BOUNTY game, no less), do yourself a favor, and just shove.
